Read articleMany stargazing events include a presentation on an astronomical topic, if not to offer an alternative if the weather is bad! Events run by Astronomical Societies tend to offer more formal, in-depth talks, however, the vast majority are aimed at novices and beginners.
View eventsThese events offer guidance and tuition on how to take photographs at night. This may include landscape astrophotography using a camera and tripod, or more advanced astrophotography where a telescope is attached to a camera in place of a camera lens.
View eventsExhibitions include events that occur for a period of time and feature topics of astronomical interest, perhaps raising awareness of light pollution or highlighting a particular location or region.
View eventsFirst-clear-night events are scheduled across a number of dates and take place on the first date when weather permits observing. Due to the difficulties organising such events and the short notice they require they are few and far between and somewhat experimental!
View eventsEvents that involve some element of practical stargazing, if weather permits. These can include the use of telescopes, binoculars or a laser-guided tour of the constellations in the sky.
View eventsObserving only events take place only when the weather is clear enough to view the skies. Often this is decided at short notice, perhaps only a few hours before the event is due to commence. Check the event organiser's website, Facebook or Twitter feed which will often give notification if the event is going ahead.

View eventsEvents that are run by a local astronomical society, astronomy club or group often involving a presentation by a guest speaker with observing afterwards, weather permitting. Most societies and groups are very happy for non-members to join such meetings, sometimes for a small fee or donation. Whichever meeting you attend and however experienced (or not) you may be you are guaranteed a warm welcome!

View eventsStar-camps are a fantastic opportunity to escape the bright light-polluted towns and cities and experience truly incredible star-filled skies! They almost always take place around the new Moon when the skies are at their darkest. New-comers always receive a warm welcome and often there will be astronomers willing to help any novices. It's likely you will be asked to abide by "red light" rules (no white light from dusk until dawn) and not make too much noise of a morning!
View eventsStarfest events bring together astronomers, vendors and guest speakers over the course of several days. There are a number of such events that place across the UK each year, including the International Astronomy Show near Warwick (pictured).

View eventsA stargazing festival consists of numerous individual events occurring during a given period, such as around a new Moon or school holidays, organised regionally, like a national park or AONB.
