Salford Observatory open evening

Salford Observatory open evening

Wednesday 13th November 2024 from 19:30pm to 21:30pm

Salford Observatory
Chaseley Road, Chasely Fields, Lancashire, M6 7DZ

The friendly and welcoming astronomers from the Salford Astronomical Society open their fantastic observatory on Wednesday evenings of most weeks throughout the whole year. These events occur no matter the weather, with presentations taking place if the skies are cloudy.

The observatory is home to an incredible 18″ aperture reflecting telescope, and the Society renovated the facility in 2020 with a new warm room and projector screen.

The observatory offers solar viewing through the summer months and may stay open for longer each evening if the skies are clear.

Note that on the second Wednesday of each month between September and April the observatory is closed as the Society meets at Swinton Gateway for their public lecture evening.

A visit is highly recommended! Clear skies!

Event darkness

The Moon has a big impact on the visibility of celestial bodies in the night sky. Try to plan your stargazing when there is no bright Moon at night as this is when the skies will be at their darkest.

The below chart shows if and when the skies will be at their darkest during this event. Moonlight is shown in light yellow and the Sun's twilight in light blue. Midnight on the date shown is shown as a white line with sunset to the left and sunrise the next morning to the right. A black background with stars shows the best times for stargazing.
